Tiger Pistol Shrimp

The Tiger Pistol Shrimp is one of the most fascinating invertebrates you can add to a reef aquarium. Known for its beautiful cream-colored body with dark tiger-like stripes, this shrimp is famous for its oversized snapping claw, which produces a loud "pop" used to defend its burrow and stun small prey.

Tiger Pistol Shrimp spend much of their time digging and maintaining tunnels beneath the sand and rockwork. They are especially popular when paired with a Watchman Goby, forming one of the most remarkable symbiotic relationships in the reef aquarium. The shrimp maintains the burrow while the goby stands guard, warning the shrimp of approaching danger.
