White Sand Star
The White Sand Star is an excellent addition to established marine aquariums with deep sand beds. These fascinating sea stars spend most of their time beneath the sand, constantly burrowing in search of detritus, leftover food, and organic matter. Their natural behavior helps keep the sand bed aerated while contributing to a healthy aquarium ecosystem.
With its smooth, pale white to cream-colored appearance, the White Sand Star is both beautiful and beneficial. They are peaceful, reef-safe, and best suited for mature aquariums that can provide a steady source of natural food.
Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Safe: Yes
Diet: Detritus, organic matter, microorganisms, and biofilm found within established sand beds
Adult Size: Up to 8 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons
AquaGemCorals Tip: White Sand Stars require a mature aquarium with a large, well-established sand bed. Because they rely heavily on naturally occurring organisms within the substrate, they are not recommended for newer tanks or aquariums with very shallow sand beds.
